5 Tips To Better Yourself At Home
Like most of us, my life after the epidemic turned into a home. When the pandemic began, I was an undergraduate. The university and dormitories then declared a two-week closure. All of a sudden, I turned back to the family house.
I thought it was a two weeks break. I could use this time to rest. When the epidemic first started, I didn’t give any thought to how I could get better. After I realized our situation was uncertain, I didn’t want to freeze time for me.
Even though I was at home, time kept flowing. In addition, the order had already changed even though we had begun to normalize. For example, I started working from home. I couldn’t be the same person if I didn’t strive to find a method to advance throughout this time.
There came a moment I needed encouragement, motivation, and mostly a reason not to break away from myself. There are five strategies I can recommend to you out of the many I tried to stay on the straight and narrow.
These are the things I’ve been doing to learn more about myself and develop, which I still do:
1. Writing your story
During the stay-at-home period, I started writing about my disappointments and successes as I could remember. I came to the conclusion that the best approach to understanding yourself is to step outside of yourself, and the simplest way to accomplish so is to write about your life.
Knowing where to start seems hard. I am not, however, referring to writing a biography. Just briefly take notes of your memories of the past. I have a notebook where I keep this kind of private information. Of course, you are also welcome to use a computer. Furthermore, it simply requires three to twenty pages. Do not be lazy!
After writing down your story, forget it for a while. I am an impatient person. So, I was only able to stand for a week. Give yourself a week or more, then when feel ready read your note and reflect on your life and yourself when you’re ready.
What did you do well and what could you have done better? Is it worthwhile to cause yourself such pain? Or did you reward yourself as you should have?
2. List the things you want to do in the next three years.
In Turkey, it’s tradition to make a list of all the things we want in life when Nowruz arrives. Additionally, you can illustrate your wishes with drawings and photographs.
I made a three-year wish list at this time of year. There were only two years remaining, and almost all of them came true.
Be specific, is what I would advise. Don’t include becoming wealthy or successful on your list. On the other hand, try including things like owning my own home or visiting cities.
You’ll be inspired for the future by it.
3. Keeping gratitude journal
I mentioned how keeping a gratitude journal boosts my energy in my previous articles. Even, I tried to turn to keep a gratitude journal into a habit in my challenges. It was always on the list!
But again, I have to warn you, don’t push yourself so hard. If you feel like you are lying about it, it just pulls you back. For instance, if I had a good cup of coffee that day, I would be appreciative of my coffee maker. Or, I’m happy to have a friend I can rely on.
Meanwhile, there are two ways: The first is keeping it regularly as I try to do. In this method, you can list three or five items you are grateful for. I write what I feel grateful in that particular day.
The second way is listing what is grateful for at once for a long period. You have room for 10–15 things. When I want a wider view of things I should be thankful for, I use this strategy.
When you are feeling overwhelmed, you can read your list of things for which you are grateful. I remind of what life is like when I look back and find a small thing that makes me happy.
4. Let you get bored
It sounds weird to you, but it is one of the most important things I taught myself. We have a lot of distractions in our environment. Even with a tiny pause, we immediately go to our phones, and don’t let us get bored.
I have written about in this article how dopamine works and why we have to avoid social media. When we always reward ourselves for a while, our brain can’t understand what is worth to be happy anymore.
I give myself 15–20 minutes to do nothing. You can lie down and watch the sealing or sit in the window corner and watch the outside.
Our effort to fill our free time is killing our creativity. With this practice you can take that back.
5. Became your YouTuber
I had an online interview, and I was waiting behind my computer. I so made the decision to videotape myself in order to practice. I tried to answer the questions I expected, and I realized how I used my mimic and voice.
After this interview, I start recording myself before importing meetings. It helps me to have better diction and control of my mimics.
In the beginning, watching yourselves is very disturbing, but you will get used to it. Give it a chance, you will see how you can start controlling your speech and look.
I appreciate you taking the time to read. I would love to hear from you! Please leave your thoughts in the comments below, and if you enjoyed don’t forget to clap. I hope to see you again soon.
