What do you think will make you happy? Before you start reading, take a minute and think about this question.

Is the answer awesome stuff like a good house with a pool, a sports car, being beautiful, fame, finding love or a good job, and getting a higher salary?

Studies show that up to a point, money makes us happy, and after a point, it has no effect on our happiness. So, high income doesn’t mean happiness but it does bring you a life that you think is better.

Or do you think being more beautiful will make you happier? Another study looked at how happy people would be if they had plastic surgery. In the next step, the happiness levels of these people after the surgery were examined. The conclusion is that being more beautiful did not increase the level of happiness.

Is perfect partner makes you happy? Especially does a true marriage solve all of your problem? I think you can estimate the answers now. Studies show that love doesn’t makes us happy forever. Happiness doesn’t come from people, it is in us.

From course of psychology professor Laurie Santos of Yale University

The reason I’m talking about all these studies is to tell you that happiness doesn’t come from big things. Happiness is in the little details hidden in daily life.

Here are a few tips that can increase your happiness in your daily life:

1. Set yourself little challenges that you can handle.

It makes us feel good to overcome small challenges at a level we can solve. For example, solving a puzzle makes us happy, not puzzles that we can’t find the answers to or that are too easy for us, but difficult ones at our level. You can set yourself goals that you can complete in a week. You will be happy to determine the number of pages of the book you want to read in a week and to see that you have completed your goal at the end of the week.

2. Set yourself a weekly quota of favors.

Set yourself a weekly quota of favors. Once or twice a week, do someone small favors. You can buy chocolates for a child you see on the street, or you can help an elderly with his bags. Setting a good quota both supports the challenge in the first item.

Nothing nourishes the soul better than doing good. Believe me, when you help someone, no matter how small, you will be happy.

3. Step away from your phone.

Create periods of time during the day when you are away from the phone. For example, you can leave your phone at home when you go to dinner with your friends in the evening, or turn it off when you finish your work in the evening. We do several things at once while the phone is with us. By moving away from your phone, you can focus on the moment and capture the memories that will make you happy more easily.

4. Have a break to habit that makes you uneasy.

We all have some habits that we enjoy doing, but that make us uncomfortable afterward. It could be junk food, video games, or social media. Take a 3-day break from this habit that makes you uncomfortable. Your goal is not to quit, just a short break. If you feel better afterward, you can continue.

5. Create a ritual.

Rituals make people feel good. Have you ever met a true coffee lover? They spend a long time for a cup of coffee. Choosing beans, grinding, brewing… It’s not just a good cup of coffee. Maybe they can easily find something better outside, but the process gives them pleasure.

Find your own coffee. My coffee is cooking. I ritualize it once a week. I try a different recipe and carefully prepare the table slowly.

6. Do self care.

I guess all women have small or large self-care routines. Men don’t pay that much attention to it. That’s why I’m adding this item specifically for them. Skin care will relax you not only physically but also spiritually, and you will feel more valuable. Moisturizing your face with a special cream and even a light massage have an impact on your happiness.

Being happy is much easier than we think. We have long lists in our heads that we think we would be delighted if they did. The truth is that when the things we expect happen, we are not as happy as we thought, or our happiness is very short-lived. Are you still happy that you got something you wanted so badly? It all passes. That’s why we need habits that make us feel good in shorter periods. Don’t expect to have something to make you happy. Create memories that will make you happy.

Thank you for taking the time and reading my post. I hope you find the joy and happiness you are looking for. I wish you all the best.

23 days ago I started a 50-day challenge. One of my goals is to share a post on Medium every day. I am very happy to see my followers increase on this journey. I would appreciate it if you would support me and accompany me on my journey. I will back to you. I hope to see you around.
